Some common questions we get about the MRS.
The Multi-Regional Summit (MRS) brings together community leaders, burners, artists, collaborators and guest speakers for leadership and community building from Sacramento, Bay Area, Reno, Carson, Tahoe and surrounding Regions. This will be our eighth year.
May 19 – 21, 2023
Campground gate check-in at 3pm Friday, May 19; Check-out at 1pm Sunday, May 21. There may be some flexibility on earlier check-in and check-out times if our reserved campsites are not being occupied. We will provide updates on the MRS Facebook event page. The campground will let you stay and enjoy the lake until dusk, provided you vacate the campsite and park in the overflow parking area, outside our camping loop.
Scotts Flat Lake, 23333 Scotts Flat Rd, Nevada City, CA 95959, Gate 2 Campground. The MRS Center Camp is the Group Campsite near the Gate 2 Campground entrance, next to the playground. MRS reserved camping sites are #201-211.
Distances – from Sacramento +/- 66 miles fastest route, 1 hr 23 minutes via I80 east to Hwy 49. From Reno +/- 82 miles 1 hr 28 minutes via I80 west to State Hwy 20 west. Here are directions .
The campground is located approximately 9 miles from Downtown Nevada City.
From Hwy 49, take the Hwy 20 exit heading east. Then take the Scotts Flat Lake exit and stay on Scotts Flat Lake Road until you reach Gate 2. You will by pass Gate 1 campground entrance.
Here are the non-refundable prepaid MRS cost share fee and camp site costs for two nights. Everyone attending will be emailed their exact costs (depending on your camping needs and number in your party) and payment instructions:
There is a $25 per person cost sharing fee for each person attending the MRS. The fee is used to offset the materials and operating costs incurred by the organizers. This fee is in addition to RV, car or tent camping costs.
These sites no longer available – The RV/Travel Trailer/Truck Camper cost is $110. Sites will be assigned. You may share the site with a car/van or tent camper and their vehicle. You will need to provide your legal name at the gate upon arrival.
The car/van/SUV camping cost is $80 if the site is assigned in your name. Otherwise the cost is $46 prepaid to MRS and $34 paid at campground gate upon arrival as an extra vehicle. Car camping means sleeping in your vehicle (car, van or SUV). Sites will be assigned. You may be sharing the campsite with an RV or tent camper and their vehicle. You will need to provide your legal name at the gate upon arrival.
The tent camping cost is a total of $80. Otherwise your cost is $46 paid to MRS and $34 paid at the campground gate upon arrival as an extra vehicle. Sites will be assigned. You may be sharing the campsite with an RV, car camper or another tent camper and their vehicle. You will need to provide your legal name at the gate.
This is a rain or shine event. There will be no refunds. If you are unable to attend, you can arrange to sell your paid participation fee and/or camping reservation fee to someone else, but you must contact Danielle (Gemini) Gann-Lind at gemini@burningman.org or Debby/Red Vixen at
Debby.Redvixen@burningman.org to provide the updated attendee information – including the legal name for any replacement RV or vehicle for car or tent camping.
Because of our thoughtfully organized learning content and program continuity, we are not allowing late arrival or partial stay options, unless an individually requested exemption is approved.
Verizon may be available in the Gate 2 campground. AT&T is the best chance at Gate 1. DON’T COUNT ON IT! There is no WiFi.
If you want to stay an extra night, you will have to check with the campground for available sites.
Campground gate hours are from 6am to midnight Friday and Saturday.
Provide your name upon arrival to identify you as being with the MRS under Debby Brower reservation and get your assigned campsite number.
If arriving after 10:00PM, please be quiet and respectful to those around you.
Quiet hours are from 10pm to 8am. No generators may be operated in the quiet hours.
There are no bear food lockers at this time. You will need to store all food and trash in your vehicles.
Yes. There is a $6.00 per night, per pet fee paid upon arrival at the gate. Pets must be on a leash at all times and are not allowed on the beach or in swim areas. Max two pets allowed per campsite.
The campground provides:

Please bring:
Everything you need to survive in a pine forested campground without hook-ups
Chairs (at least one chair for each person in your party for the meeting area)
Collapsible tables for your campsite
Lights to illuminate your campsite. Be forewarned that there may be a nighttime walkabout, and your deco may be judged.
Food to share for potlucks (Saturday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast) Bring meat to BBQ
Optional drink contest concoction recipe and fixins (cocktail or mocktail)
Mosquito/ticket repellant/Yellow Jacket deterrent
Optional bear deterrent such as whistle, bell or airhorn
Sun protection
Flashlight
Warm clothes for cold nights
Fire extinguisher if building campfire at your site
Fishing pole, if licensed.
Kayak or water floats.
Firewood (non-milled) for fire ring **
Wood or charcoal fires are ONLY permitted in established BBQ pits and campground fire rings. ** Each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table. And:
Propane fire pits and BBQs are allowed.
Have a fire extinguisher nearby.
Do not leave fires unattended, build rock fire rings or use hand lanterns or tiki torches
Positively NO open ground fires are permitted anywhere in the recreation areas or on shorelines.
Any person who allows a campfire to escape from the container is liable for any damages of property caused by the fire. These may include fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical services costs incurred in fighting the fire.
** Fire restriction may be imposed anytime due to weather conditions, power outages or poor air quality, at which time campfires and charcoal fires will not be permitted. In severe cases, propane use may be restricted as well.

Release of Liability: All visitor/guest use of our recreation facilities is at their own risk and liability. In granting permission to enter and use the area and facilities, Nevada Irrigation District (NID) is not responsible for injury, theft, loss or damage. By entering the campgrounds, all visitors agree to hold NID harmless from any claim, demand or liability.
